Abortion: Will You Kill The Born To Save The Unborn?

Last Sunday’s killing of Dr. George Tiller of Kansas by an anti-abortion terrorist will obviously reopen the abortion debate.

The 67-year old doctor was gunned down in church while he handed church bulletin out to the congregation. The killer is a God fearing man opposed to abortion and fighting for the right of the unborn. Dr. Tiller joins a long list of doctors who have lost their lives in the hands of those willing to kill the born to save the unborn.

It is yet another example of what happens when the voice of moderation is obscured by the voice of extremism.

I do not know when there were never abortions. And I do not know when there will never be abortion.

But that is irrelevant in the abortion debate.

I do know that in places where abortion is illegal, abortion is performed illegally. In many cases, putting at risk the life of the mother.

But of course, in abortion debate, the life of the mother is of no importance to the absolutes.

Abortion: Will You Kill The Born To Save The Unborn?

Over the years, the framing of the abortion debate has changed. It used to be an opposition to late-term abortion. Then it became an opposition to the destruction of the fetus. Now it has become a fight for the right of the unborn. How can you fault that? Those helpless unborn babies must have someone speaking for them.

It was in the olden days that you were called a baby only after you were born. Now with ultrasound machine everywhere, the definition of a baby has changed.

The abortion police used to argue that once a fertilized egg is implanted, it is a baby. Now, they argue that once the sperms are on their way to the eggs, stopping them is an act of abortion.

Next up, a man may not be allowed to waste the sperms that come out while he pleasures himself. Those sperms have the right to take a trip to the egg. You may think it is funny but that is where this debate is headed.

In the eyes of the anti-abortionists, a woman has no right over her body. If the anti-abortionists have their way, they will mount scanners at all doors to check on all women to see who has in her eggs that were fertilized yesterday. Once the scanner picks that up, they will declare such a woman a property of the People For the Protection of the Unborn (PPU).

What I really find disgusting about the anti-abortion group is that many of them support the killing of the born while opposing the killing of the unborn. Apparently, the commandment, thou shall not kill, excludes the anti-abortionists.

Those who are for death penalty should be ashamed to be anti-abortionists. Those who support wars should be ashamed to be anti-abortionists. Those who do nothing while 2 million kids die of malaria in Africa should be ashamed to be anti-abortionists. Those who do nothing while millions of mothers die in childbirth all over the world should be ashamed to call themselves anti-abortionists. Those who sit around while 20 million children die each year from preventable diseases should be ashamed to call themselves anti-abortionists.

How can you be against sex education, against contraception- condoms, morning after pills and not be ashamed to be against abortion?

As for me, if women should have no right over their bodies because they produce the eggs, I say men should also lose the right over theirs because they produce the sperms. If women must account for each egg they produced, men must account for each sperm they produced.

Most often, men push this extreme abortion debate. I think it is time to take it to their court - and to their balls, too.

Christian fundamentalists want total control of women, just like the Taliban.

How long before domestic religious terrorism is called out for what it is: terrorism. The only point these fanatics are trying to get across is to follow their way or die. Such people do not deserve a voice when they attach violence to it.

On a moral and ideal level, like many other people, I would rather there be no abortions, except in cases of troubles to the mother or rape. However, I believe a woman can do whatever she believes is best for herself because I don't and can't control someone else, I really don't care what other people do to themselves, and it is her free right to do what she wants.

Tiller was one of only 3 doctors in the ENTIRE US who perform late term abortions.

Only about 100 late term abortions are performed here annually. Even FOXnews will tell you that.

This stuff makes no sense to me. The doctor is just performing a procedure that the PATIENT wants. Would it not make sense for these crazy "extremists" to just kill the person who got the abortion? I don't get how that works at all.

Anybody who would claim to be Pro-Life, and yet advocate murder are pure hypocritical scum.

I feel terrible for his family, terrible for him, and terrible for the women in a desperate situation, who would abort a baby which had fatal defects, or who would abort for cervical cancer discovered mid-pregnancy, who cannot travel to Boulder or LA, where the only 2 remaining late-term abortion providers reside.

What an incredibly brave and selfless man he was to perform the services he did for women, at great cost to his own personal safety and reputation.

Babies are the priceless gift given to human and the problem is that some shameless people don’t understand it. If you can’t handle a divine gift then why do you grant it from god.

Rose, its not necessary that all children are conceived by the will of the parents. At times it is just by accident, sometimes by carelessness and sometimes its unwanted if the female is raped.

Hence, there should be a provision to abort the child who is not wanted by the parents. In any case such child will suffer in future as well because one who is not wanted will not be loved either.

Who takes responsibility for that?

while I do not wish for abortion to be used as a simple form of birth control, I cannot find it correct to deny women a right to their bodies..

there are so many issues: health, rape, economics and finances, mental stability, that need to be adressed and contemplated...abortion is not just a pro-life vs pro-woman issue, it simply has too much ”grey area”..
