One of my holiday rituals is to allow some entertainment into my life. For instance, on Christmas Eve, I watched, again, the TV mini-series, The Temptations. It was a microcosmic presentation of the trajectory of the American dream.

I began to suspect the word ‘entertainment’ when I noticed that Psychics put in small prints a warning that said their art was “for entertainment only.” Then it was revealed that wrestling was also for entertainment only. To a large extent, most sports are entertainments too. Of course, show business is pure entertainment.

So in essence, most of what we see on TV and in real life is pure entertainment. A case could be made that to many politicians, politics is also entertainment.

Today, however, I am going to talk about the entertainment we provide each another. (For now, I will leave alone the entertainment we provide ourselves.)

Besides buying her a diamond, how do you entertain a woman?

I know one way – by entertaining her with humor. All women love to laugh. (Sarah Palin included.) They love men who could make them laugh. I guess the thinking is that if you could make a woman laugh, chances are that you could make her have orgasm. (Go figure!)

Anyway, making someone laugh involves telling jokes. Often the easiest jokes to tell are those with sexual innuendos. It hardly fails. Audiences usually boo comedians for telling such a joke. Jay Leno used to fight back by saying, “like you are not going to repeat it tomorrow at the water cooler.” (Water cooler is where workers gossip.)

Have you noticed that when you elevate your joke to those sexual realms, women often chuckle, “sick man.”

What do they mean by sick man?

Do women who easily identify what is sick and what is not sick wish they are a little sick inside? Are they really sick? Do people who tell “sick” jokes simply pretending not to be boring prudes? Are they really saints trying to cover it up by dabbling into entertainment?

One of the greatest geniuses of American comedy wrote that, “Sex is dirty when it is done right.” I suppose you will call him a sick man. Come to think of it, some people do call him a sick man.

My question is, “when is sex dirty?” Is there any way of answering this question without appearing sick to some saints among us?
